You've signed - what next?
Congratulations. You are a Nottingham Declaration signatory.
But that's just the beginning!
By signing the Nottingham Declaration your council has made some important commitments. Here are some suggestions for what to do to next.
Allocate responsibilities. Make sure that climate change is included within the portfolio of one of your executive cabinet members and the responsibilities of one or more senior managers.
Consider the 7 commitments. Ask for a report to the executive cabinet on how the council will fulfil each of the 7 commitments in the Nottingham Declaration
Prepare a Climate Change Action Plan, if your council doesn't have one. There is advice elsewhere on this site about how to go about developing an action planor
Review and refresh an existing Climate Change Action Plan (or Plans). Check if it:-
- Addresses both adaptation and mitigation
- Covers the three key roles: estate manager; service provider; and community leader
- Includes targets, responsibilities and other items recommended in our advice on drafting the action plan
Check the implementation of an existing Climate Change Action Plan (or Plans):
- Check that it has been embedded within council policies and programmes
- Ask for regular reports on progress, possibly as part of other progress monitoring.
- If there appears to be problems, look at the advice on implementation
