Options outlined for eco-conscious homeowners

Homeowners looking to save money on their fuel bills by installing microgeneration technology at home may be interested in a list of options compiled by the Guardian.

The newspaper detailed a number of the selections available to property owners, pointing out that the installation of many microgeneration technologies may be funded in part by grants from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme if the candidate meets specific criteria.

Solar panels can be used for solar photovoltaic power generation or solar thermal and are a popular choice among homeowners, although there are a number of other technologies to consider.

For example, wind turbines are one of the most inexpensive forms of microgeneration to install, with the price of a single turbine starting from around £2,000.

Homeowners seeking a more low-maintenance form of microgeneration may do well to consider a ground source heat pump, the newspaper suggested, as they require fairly little upkeep.

The Energy Saving Trust has asserted that other forms of microgeneration to consider for home use are biomass and small-scale hydropower.
